New loan 2026

about €550m

Comvest Credit Partners provided the loan that replaced the Elliott loan in January 2026.

When RedBird bought Milan in 2022, it did not have all the money itself. So the seller, Elliott, lent RedBird around €550m of the purchase price. This is called a vendor loan. As security, Elliott held the shares in Milan as collateral. This means Elliott could have taken the club back if the loan was not repaid.

The loan had an interest rate of around 8% and was originally due on 31 August 2025. In December 2024, RedBird paid in €170m. This reduced the loan to around €489m and moved the due date to July 2028.

On 30 January 2026, RedBird announced that the Elliott loan had been refinanced. This means RedBird took out a new loan, arranged by Comvest Credit Partners, and used the money to pay off Elliott. Il Sole 24 Ore puts the amount at €550m, while Bloomberg reported around 700 million dollars. Elliott's representatives Gordon Singer and Dominic Mitchell left the board at the same time. The debt sits with the holding company, not with the club itself.

At the time of the 2022 purchase, it was reported that several investors had joined in with smaller stakes through RedBird: Yankees Global Enterprises (owners of the New York Yankees baseball team, around 10%), the Main Street Advisors fund (where LeBron James and Drake are passive investors) and the Italian Silva family. Yankees president Randy Levine sits on Milan's board.

  1. Silvio Berlusconi / Fininvest

Berlusconi bought a club with serious financial problems. The purchase was announced on 20 February 1986, and the price was around 15 billion lire. It was the start of the most successful era in the club's history.

  2. Li Yonghong

China's Li Yonghong bought 99.93% on 13 April 2017. The price was €740m, including €220m in debt. To manage it, he borrowed €303m from the Elliott fund, at an interest rate of 11.5%.

  3. Elliott Management

Li was unable to repay the loan. So Elliott took over the club in July 2018. Elliott sorted out the finances and appointed Paolo Scaroni as chairman.

  4. RedBird Capital Partners

RedBird bought the club from Elliott for €1.2bn. The deal was announced in June and completed on 31 August 2022. Elliott financed a large part of the purchase with a vendor loan.

  5. Vendor loan changed

RedBird paid in €170m in December 2024. The remaining loan of around €489m was given a new due date of July 2028.

  6. Elliott completely out

RedBird refinanced the loan through Comvest in January 2026. Elliott left the board, and RedBird is now the sole controlling owner.

San Siro is not owned by Milan alone. The stadium and the area around it were bought from the City of Milan for €197m on 5 November 2025. The buyer is the company Stadio San Siro S.p.A., which Milan and Inter own half each. Read more under «Stadium».
